Most of us love to enjoy a cocktail from time to time and you CAN do it without derailing your healthy lifestyle! Most alcohol is pretty low-glycemic actually and the calories aren’t horrible. It is usually the added sugar – and having multiple drinks – that cause us to gain weight from alcohol.

When at home – this is where to get creative and enjoy a cocktail! Involve fruit – why? Well, it tastes great, the fruit helps add volume so your drink seems larger and I just read a recent study that adding alcohol to fruit may help increase its antioxidant power! It also makes it look pretty – bonus!

Here is a healthified cocktail recipe:

You will need:

  • 1 cup chopped fruit of your choice – watermelon, grapes, apples, apples, etc.
  • 2 cups pure fruit juice (fresh orange juice is great)
  • ¼ cup simple syrup (recipe below)
  • ½ cup vodka or rum


Simple Syrup – Healthified

You will need:

  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup raw honey
  • 1 packet of stevia or any other natural sweetener

Bring to a boil then turn off and cool. A tablespoon of this mixture will sweeten a drink perfectly!

What to do:

1) Combine everything and let it sit for several hours in the refrigerator.

2) On a hot day, freeze it for a bit and let it get slushy!

3) Ladle a bit into each glass, with a pretty pick for the fruit and enjoy!


Makes about 4-6 servings
