As a Hypnotherapist that specialises in hypnotherapy for weight loss, I see many clients with different food related issues. The vast majority however experience problems when it comes to portion control, and that exasperating compulsion to eat everything on the plate, despite feeling full. Rather than waste the food in the bin, its wasted on the waist. This is often followed by all too familiar feelings of self-flagellation, guilt and self punishing self-talk. The thing is with ‘guilt’ is that it seeks punishment and the very thing that you beat yourself up for you find yourself repeating.
So why if overeating excessively and carrying extra weight makes you miserable is it so difficult to stop? Surely the logical thing to do would be to take charge and stop doing the things that make you unhappy? Therein lies the fatal flaw it is the ‘logical’ thing to do. Let me explain further: it can be useful to think of the mind in two halves – the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious is the logical, rational mind that utilises ‘willpower’ and the subconscious is the emotional, imaginative mind. The subconscious mind is far more powerful than the conscious mind and with all the conscious intent in the world, nothing will ever change unless the subconscious mind is on side; this is the part of your mind where all those old beliefs and habitual behaviours from the past have been stored away, in the archives, creating all those unhealthy and incredibly frustrating eating patterns. Our conscious mind cannot possibly override these old belief systems with permanent effect, until they are cleared out and new positive, health enhancing ones installed in their place.
Hypnotherapy for weight loss is a real game changer, as it by-passes the conscious mind and convinces the subconscious of the validity in changing those old programmes. These old sabotaging programmes are the culprits persuading us to eat compulsively, or offering a camouflage in order that we may numb out our emotions. Once that happens, then food becomes very addictive. Convincing the subconscious that weight loss is in our best interest, is the solution that will give us the long term results we desire and deserve and it is when our conscious and subconscious minds are aligned for healthy eating then the battle with food can finally be over, and it’s a weight not only off your body but also your mind.
