5 Homemade Hair Treatments For Dry, Damaged Hair

 

These easy homemade hair treatments are made from ingredients in your kitchen.  The perfect way to restore moisture and shine without the extra cost of special hair care products or unneeded chemicals. Don’t know where to start? I have got you covered:

 

1. Coconut Milk & Honey Hair Smoothie

Great for dehydrated hair.

Ingredients:

1 can pure coconut milk

1 ripe avocado

2 tablespoons of pure honey

2 tablespoons of olive oil

What to do:

1. Add all ingredients to blender. Mix at high speed until your mixture reaches a smoothie consistency.

2. Part hair into 4 segments. Generously apply evenly to hair from the roots to ends emphasis to the ends as they are prone to damage.

3. Let it set on hair for 30 minutes covered with a shower cap.

4. Rinse out with warm water.

5. Shampoo as usual.

Note:

  • Can store in the fridge for 2 weeks. You will only need to warm up your hair smoothie in the micro-wave just to remove the chill.
  • You can substitute olive oil for any other natural oil of your choice.
  • For extra dry hair add a tablespoon more of oil and honey.

 

2. Banana Hair Smoothie

Perfect for thinning hair – bananas contain potassium which strengthens and fixes damaged hair without weighing it down.

Ingredients:

1 ripe banana

1 egg

4 tablespoons pure honey

4 tablespoons milk

5 tablespoons olive oil

What to do:

1. Blend the banana making sure chunks are all smoothed out or you will be stuck with chunks of banana on your hair all day.

2. Apply the mixture to your hair .

3.  Cover your hair with shower cap for 20 to 25 minutes.

4. Rinse out in the shower with cold water.

5. Shampoo as usual.

 

3.  Avocado Hair Mask

You know avocados are excellent in moisturizing face mask they nourish hair too. Egg yolks are full of fats and proteins that revive hair.

Ingredients:

1/2 avocado

1 egg yolk

 What to do:

1. Blend the avocado and egg yolk in a blender.

2. Apply on hair, working from bottom up.

3. Cover hair with shower cap for 20 – 25 minutes.

4. Rinse out in the shower with cold water.

5. Shampoo as usual.

 

4. Olive Oil & Egg Yolk Hair Mask

Rich in proteins, vitamins, and super-nurturing fatty acids, egg yolks won’t only make your hair softer, shinier, and healthier, they help you to grow it long as well. An abundance of vitamins A, D, and E will help prevent any hair loss and thicken thinning hair, while D itself promotes new growth and keeps split ends at bay. Olive oil also strengthens and softens, making it particularly ideal for dry or damaged hair. It also exfoliates your tresses while strengthening the color of your hair and maintaining the texture.

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil

2 egg yolks

What to do:

1. Mix the olive oil and egg in a bowl and whisk in the mixer till its creamy and frothy.

2. Apply onto the hair.

3. Cover with a shower cap and leave to set to 20-25 minutes.

4. Rinse out in the shower using cold water

5. Shampoo as usual.

 

5. Pawpaw Moisture Mask

Rich in Vitamins, enzymes and minerals that help nourish hair, add shine and softness.

Ingredients:

1/2 pawpaw ripe

2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 teaspoon pure honey

What to do:

1. Puree pawpaw with some of the olive oil and honey.

2. Apply to damp hair.

3. Leave to set 25 minutes covered with a shower cap.

4. Rinse out and shampoo if necessary.

 

Tip: Trying applying these treatments in the shower after you shampoo – the heat in the shower will open up your hair follicles to allow the treatment to penetrate into the hair shaft. Cover with shower cap and rinse off at the end of your shower.
